Fielding Graduate Institute was founded in March, 1974, in Santa Barbara, California, the realization of the vision of three founders: Frederic Hudson, Hallock Hoffman, and Renata Tesch.

What does Fielding mean to me?

Fielding is a meeting place. Sometimes it's a virtual space and sometimes it's not. Some consider it the Harvard of distance learning, I think of it as a cradle of golden light where higher purposes unite. I came to "Fielding", out of semi-retirement in 1999, to work as an Associate Dean in the Human and Organization Development Program. It was a fascinating experience, reigniting my academic flame. Now as an Adjunct Faculty member I work with students and others on a part-time basis. My interests are varied but center in what used to be called the "Human Potential Movement". How do we live and work fruitfully together as a species? What combination of "being" and "becoming" best develops our conscious humanity? What are the dimensions of human intelligence? These are some of the broader questions that underlie most of my creative thinking. I feel blessed to have found Fielding at a time when my time and energy for such matters permits the luxury of deep reflection. That there are kindred souls out there who ask many of the same questions is truly a wonder. That they ask questions I'd never considered but find fascinating is a miracle.
